Disposable Cat Litter Box FAQ

Everything about sizing, litter, leaks, shipping, and subscriptions for the Cats Desire disposable cat litter box.

General

How long does a disposable litter box last?

With one cat, plan on two to four weeks per box. Fill it with at least 3 inches of clumping litter, scoop daily, and replace the whole box when the litter is spent. Homes with two or more cats usually land closer to the two week mark.

The exact number depends on your cat, your litter, and how faithfully you scoop, so treat two to four weeks as a range rather than a rule. If you are pacing a subscription, one cat is usually one box every three weeks.

Can I use one disposable litter box for two cats?

You can, and plenty of multi cat homes do. The 19 by 17 inch floor gives two cats room to use the box without crowding each other. You will just go through boxes faster, usually one every two weeks instead of every three or four weeks.

If your cats are territorial, or you have had accidents outside the box, running two boxes in separate rooms is worth trying before anything else.

What if my cat does not like the disposable litter box?

Most cats take to it right away, since once there is litter in it the box feels much like a plastic pan underfoot. If yours hesitates, change one thing at a time. Put the new box exactly where the old one sat and use the same litter you always have, so the location and the texture stay familiar. If that is not enough, stack a second box on top as a cover, because some cats simply want privacy.

We have tested and improved this product for over a decade, and those two adjustments solve almost every case.

Where are Cats Desire litter boxes made?

Right here in the USA. Every Cats Desire disposable litter box is manufactured domestically, and the design has been refined over more than a decade of feedback from real cat owners. Keeping production in the States means we can check quality and fix problems quickly instead of waiting on a container ship. Our product is protected by US patents.

Using your box

How big is the Cats Desire disposable litter box?

One box measures 19 by 17 by 8.5 inches. The 8.5 inch sides hold in kicked litter and overspray better than a shallow pan, which is why owners of Maine Coons, Ragdolls, and 20 pound cats are some of our most frequent customers. Stack a second box upside down on top and you get a covered box with 17 inches of interior height.

  • Open, one box 19 x 17 x 8.5 in
  • Covered, two boxes stacked 19 x 17 x 17 in

Do disposable litter boxes leak?

Ours are built to resist it. The interior is double coated to resist moisture, so normal daily use is not a problem. The bigger factor is how you fill it.

Use at least 3 inches of clumping litter and scoop daily. Clumping litter traps moisture near the surface and lifts out in one solid piece, instead of letting liquid settle at the base where it sits against the cardboard. Shallow litter, or a litter that does not clump, is what causes almost every problem people report. For extra peace of mind, or to stretch the life of each box, a litter mat underneath never hurts.

What kind of litter should I use in a disposable litter box?

Clumping litter, at least 3 inches deep. The depth matters more than the brand. Clumping litter locks urine into a solid mass near the surface so you can scoop it out whole, which keeps moisture away from the base of the box.

Crystal, pine, paper, and non clumping clay litters all let liquid run to the bottom, so we do not recommend them with this product. If you are switching over from a non clumping litter, mix the two for a few days so your cat gets used to the new texture.

How do I turn it into a covered litter box?

Every box in the pack is identical, so the cover is just a second box. Flip one upside down, set it on top of the first, and connect the tabs to hold the two together. That is the whole process and it takes about ten seconds.

Covered, the setup comes out to 19 by 17 by 17 inches, which is enough headroom for a large cat to stand up and turn around. Our full walkthrough shows each step.

Do I still have to scoop?

Yes, daily. A disposable box saves you the deep clean at the end, not the daily maintenance. Scooping keeps odor down, keeps the remaining litter usable longer, and is the single biggest thing you can do to keep the box dry. When the box is finished, you skip the scrubbing entirely and just fold it up.

How do I throw away a disposable litter box?

Fold the walls inward and the box collapses in on itself with the litter still inside. If it is very full, push the litter toward the back first. Then pull the handles out, connect the tabs, and carry it to the trash like a bag. Nothing to scoop out, nothing to scrub, nothing to hose down in the driveway.

If you would rather recycle, empty the used litter into the trash first, then recycle the clean cardboard.

Shipping

How long does delivery take?

Orders typically ship within the next business day. Transit time depends on where you are, though 3 to 5 days is typical for most of the country. You will get a tracking email as soon as your label is created. Our Shipping Policy has the full details.

Do you ship internationally?

Not yet. We currently ship within the United States only.

Returns and subscriptions

What is your return policy?

Returns are accepted within thirty days. Ship the unused boxes back to us and we will refund you. Because these are cardboard, we can only take back boxes that have not been used with litter. If something arrived crushed or damaged, get in touch instead of starting a return and we will make it right. Full terms are in our Return Policy.

How do I manage my subscription?

Log into your account to pause, skip, reschedule, or cancel. Everything is self service, so there is no email to send and no one to wait on. Changes take effect on your next scheduled order as long as you make them before it processes.

How often should I get a delivery?

It depends on how many cats you have. One cat is usually one box every three weeks, two cats every two weeks, and three or more cats about weekly. Multiply that by your pack size to get your delivery frequency. A 10 pack in a one cat home, for example, works out to roughly seven months of litter boxes.

You can change the schedule any time in your account, so it is easy to start with an estimate and adjust after your first delivery.

Can I change to a monthly subscription?

Yes. You can set your subscription to any schedule you like after you place your order. Click the link in your email or log into your account, then change your frequency.
